Hi again guys! As I told you on the previous post, I was preparing a free Wordpress Theme for you called Spectrum.
I’m glad to announce that is now here!
About the theme
- Designed and developed by me, Ignacio Ricci (www.ignacioricci.com)
- Cool Design
- 100% Crossbrowser (IE6, IE7, IE8, Opera, Safari, Firefox)
- 100% semantic code. All non-semantic design elements are added via Javascript.
- Uses primarily the Cambria font (Windows Vista, Office 2007, Office for Mac 2008)
- Widget Ready
License:
The theme is totally free. However, you must leave the Design and Development credits to me (Ignacio Ricci) in the blog that is using the theme.
Other useful information
The following information is included on a read-me file in the .zip archive so don’t worry.
Logo
In the folder you just downloaded, you will find an image called: logo-template.png
The purpose of this image, is for you to insert your logo there, and then upload the modified version to the theme folder (images/logo.png) This will allow you to have a nice logo with a seamless background.
If you prefer, just use a transparent PNG as a logo, but be aware that it won’t look good on IE6.
Custom Field:
Spectrum uses one custom field. It’s optional, and it’s purpose is to include the post image. I recommend to use it, because it makes the design even nicer.
The custom field name to use is: postImage
The value will be the URL of the image. Example: http://www.website.com/image.gif
The maximum width for this image is 600 px.
Comment Replies
Spectrum can handle comment replies up to 3 levels (depth=3).
Recent Comments Plugin
Spectrum requires the recent comments plugin (included).
In order to correctly show the Spectrum Theme comments, you should install the plugin provided, and set the comment code in the WP-Admin page (Settings > Recent Comments) to the following:
<li><a href="%comment_link" title="%post_title, %post_date"><span>%comment_author</span> <em>on "%post_title"</em></a></li>

The logo’s font is a modified version of Black Rose.

Spectrum is wonderful. I really love it! I have a couple of editing question:
1. How can I change the order of items in the side bar?
2. How can I specify the position of a widget in the side bar?
3. How can I add a banner to the side bar?

I’m stilling needing help with adding a widget to the sidebar in the Spectrum theme. I try to add it in the normal way, but nothing shows up in the sidebar. Please help!
Hi David, sorry for the late reply.
Spectrum includes by default: Search, Categories, Recent posts, Recent comments, Archives, Blogroll.
It’s also widget ready. So you can add widgets to the sidebar.
If it’s not working for you, please try downloading the theme again, from:
http://spectrum-theme.com/download/spectrum-theme-package.zip
I guess you could add a Banner as a Text Widget, introducing HTML code

1. How can I change the order of items in the side bar?

Under the Appearance > Editor menu, you just have to edit the sidebar.php file. To remove the Recent Comments widget, I removed the following code.
Recent Comments
Reordering would follow the same principle – grab the code for the widgets you want to re-order and carefully rearrange them.

WOW!! blown away. Really cool theme, I was especially impressed with the rollover effect on the about button at the top, the slow fade.

Thank you so much, I installed your theme yesterday and it works perfectly!! I would have only wiched to have some transparency in the background so that I could make a banner as large as I wanted!!
I have a problem though… Some of my sprites don’t appear on my blog, such as the leftFold, the rightFold and the buttons don’t become green as the pointer flies on it… I can’t find a solution on the internet… and I tried to reinstal it… Maybe is there a conflict between two plugins, is that possible? I just wanted to know if this problem can be fixed. Thanks.

Sorry for the late response.
Some design elements in Spectrum are added via Javascript. If a plugin has a JS error it can interfere with Spectrum.

Love this theme, and it installed great, but my download did not include a logo-template.png file. Any idea where I can get one? Thanks!

If you downloaded the Theme from the WordPress site, due to some limitations they have, that file is missing.

This is a beautiful theme! I love the bright colors and large typography. Great job with this.
One of my client wishes to use this theme , I can give it a try as it claims to have cross-browser compatibilities , but I thought of checking , if there is any support available for theme still

I’ve tested your skin, really beautiful, but impossible to use other jquery file, only jquery provide with the theme work, or in WP3 jquery is include and called by many plugin :/
is there any way for fix your spectrum.min.js ? (you can test, impossible to use with tthe 1.4.2 used by WP3, i’ve tested with google api, 1.3.2 and 1.4.2 not work too, very strange, is the first time i can use other jquery file …)

Ok finally, i’ve find the problem, your .js is above the jquery file (called by wp_head ), for fix simply deplace your .js under the wp_head function =)
